The 2007 NCTR Transit GIS Conference was another sucess. With over 100 attendees from all corners of the U.S. the enthusiastic conference attendees were engaged by many of the sessions. Perhaps most engaging was the presentation by Google's Naomi Bilodeau. Her presentation on Google's on-line transit trip planner and Google's geographic based searches entertained and inspired many of the attendees. As with past conferences, the presentations are available for viewing and downloading . Also as in keeping with our committement to delivering the most meaningful conference for the attendees we are offering an opportunity for others to give feedback about the conference. A survey is available for those that are willing to participate and guide future conferences. I would like to take this time to express my gratitude to all the participants and attendees for making this another successful conference. It is the devotion and committement of the individuals that make this a meaningful conference. If you have any input or comments please be sure to visit our survey or contact me directly at

The Transit GIS Clearinghouse is hosted by the National Center for Transit Research (NCTR) at the University of South Florida's Center for Urban Transportation Research. The clearinghouse is an outgrowth of the National Transit GIS Conference. It is a natural progeression of the NCTR's goal of "improving the ability of operating agencies...to provide their services in manner that is efficient, productive, and attractive to the traveling public". The Transit GIS clearinghouse, will become a forum for transit professionals looking to utilize GIS within its public transportation organization. The initial focus of the clearinghouse will be the main portal for all past, present, and future Transit GIS conferences. Additionally, the clearinghouse will provide four major areas of assistance: - Resources and Training
- Transit relevant data
- Access to techniques and models
- Analysis in the form of reports and studies
As the clearinghouse evolves the role of the user community will become increasingly important. To that end, a listserv, users forum and on-line surveys will be common features of the web site to ensure the clearinghouse continues to be relevant and useful to the user community. Thank you for your time and interest and we hope to work with all of you to build this clearinghouse. |
